In this tutorial I will use simple shapes, in three colours, I have created in Illustrator.

Shape

Use the eye dropper tool (I) to select a colour of the three shapes. The colour will appear in your colour selector.

Once you have done this with all the colours, make sure your swatches menu is open and visible. Click on the colour in the colour menu and drag it to the Swatches menu. With your CMD (Mac) or Ctrl (PC) button held in, select all the colours in your swatch menu.

At the bottom of the menu select the folder with the plus sign. You may give a name to your selection, if you want to. When pressing OK, your colours will be in a folder under the Swatches menu. Click on this wheel for the next step.

This will bring up a menu with a colour wheel. Remember to have clicked on the folder of the all the colours selected that need converting.

Click on the six blocked icon below the link icon. This will open the colourbook menu and select > Color books > PANTONE solid coated. This is the PANTONES we use when printing on CD's or DVDs.

As you can see, the colour wheel has changed. Illustrator has now converted your selected colours to the nearest PANTONE. Press OK and Click YES to save. On the Swatch menu your coulors have a litte triangle at the bottom right corner. This means it is now a spot colour and not a process colour anymore.

Pantone2

You can now select each shape and change it to the respective colour. To make sure you select the right colour, use the wand tool (W). When you have selected the shape and viewed the colour menu, the PANTONE colour will appear.
